Episode 7 - My First Step
November 7, 2002

Julie Keaton (Heather Locklear) the pharmaceutical rep is at the hospital for one of her sales rounds. The male doctors and staff and even some of the women line up to get their dose of the hot, sexy Julie. She turns J.D. into a quivering, nervous mess and she even manages to soften Dr. Kelso. But ironically, Dr. Cox can't stand her. However, he is forced to plan a pharmaceutical dinner for the staff with her. Later, she confronts him on why he is always so nasty to her. He doesn't give a reason, but Julie thinks he just wants to sleep with her. Their sexual tension continues at the dinner.

After dinner, Julie is waiting for Dr. Cox on the hood of his car outside the restaurant. Yet, the combination of her great legs, great chest and "come hither" look isn't enough to sway Dr. Cox. She accuses him of being afraid to take a chance on their relationship, using their work relationship as a barrier. After thinking about it for a day, Cox decides to take a chance and meets with Julie at a bar.

J.D. and Elliot are still butting heads about who is the better doctor, who is better at diagnosing illnesses, etc. J.D.'s patient, Mike Hobert, constantly injures himself doing wild and dangerous stunts, like skateboarding on a handrail and damaging his crotch. Elliot's patient, Mrs. Kahn, has necrotizing fasciitis. Elliot can't decide whether to send her to surgery or treat the condition with meds. She asks J.D. for his advice. He advises against surgery. The patient goes to surgery and later dies on the operating table. Elliot has to explain the death at the Morbidity and Mortality (M&M) conference. Instead of being raked over the coals, she is instead praised for taking a chance and making a tough decision, even though the end result was death.

Carla and Turk's relationship stumbles a little when, as a surprise and thinking that he is doing her a favor, he pays for her to attend nurse practitioner's school. Carla had earlier mentioned that she had to get permission from a doctor to change a patient's diet. If she were a nurse practitioner, she could change his diet without a doctor's permission. She later gets into trouble with Dr. Kelso for changing a patient's Lidocaine drip without the doctor's permission. Ultimately, she decides not to take the class because it would take time away from her relationship with Turk.

As the final gesture of taking chances, Elliot and J.D. bungee jump off of a bridge, guided with the help of Mike Hobert.
